Director Statement
'Apollyon' is my most personal film yet. I was inspired by the seemingly inconceivable current political climate, and the people who are most effected by it. I wanted to showcase those who are systematically oppressed in a narrative, so my team and I created our 'monster' - The void. Each lost soul is unique in their own way, representing a member of the community otherwise forgotten; a drug abuser, a murdered Cop, even a battered woman. My general desire is for audience members to recognize that, and hopefully discuss what each individual embodies at the conclusion of the film.

The idea of the void was to represent a black hole, sucking people in who have no way to defend themselves. This is their purgatory, whether they like it or not. This is an important distinction, because There is always a feeling of ‘choice,’ like the souls approaching the void. But, in reality, there is no choice. Society has chosen that for them.

I love film, and I love what film can teach us. I’m hopeful that audiences will leave the theater both entertained and left with a level of cogitation. We’ll see. But, at the very least, I think we have one hell of a monster movie here.
